Complimentary drinks in the Lufthansa Lounge at JFK airport

While waiting for my evening flight from JFK to Zurich, I had the chance to explore two lounges in Terminal 1: the Lufthansa Lounge and the Primeclass Lounge.

Thanks to my business class ticket with Swiss Air, I had access to a fast-track security line and plenty of time to unwind and compare both experiences. Check-in and screening took no more than 30 minutes. It was time to let the adventures begin!

✈️ Lufthansa Lounge

Entry to the Lufthansa Lounge was included with my business class ticket on Swiss Air. It’s located immediately to the left after you clear security, and it was the larger of the two lounges I visited.

Atmosphere

The lounge was bright and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows that flooded the space with natural light and offered a fantastic view of the tarmac. There were several different seating areas to choose from—whether you wanted to relax, work, or eat, there was a spot for it.

Food & Drink

Complimentary food and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were available. Recipe cards that showed you how to make cocktails like a Bloody Mary, Margarita, or even a "Staten Island Ferry" were a cute touch.

Bathrooms

The restrooms here were a lot more comfortable than the airport's public bathrooms. The women’s room opened to a shared sink area with individual stalls, and everything felt clean and well-kept.

✨ Primeclass Lounge

The Primeclass Lounge is located near Gate 10, just a short walk from where my flight was departing. I accessed this lounge using my Priority Pass Membership, which I have through my American Express Platinum Card (a must-have for frequent travelers!).

Even though I forgot my physical card, the Priority Pass app saved the day—I added the pass to my Apple Wallet and had no trouble checking in at the front desk.

Atmosphere

This lounge is on the first floor, accessible via stairs or elevator. While it doesn’t offer any windows or views like the Lufthansa Lounge, mirrored walls create the illusion of a larger space. Overall, the vibe felt a little more upscale and intimate.

Food & Drink

The food selection was equally impressive. Though, unlike Lufthansa, alcoholic beverages were not complimentary here. Still, the quality of the snacks was great—I especially loved their fig jam with cheese and the soft, chewy cookies that hit the spot.

Bathrooms

For me, this is where Primeclass shined. The restrooms are individual, gender-neutral private rooms with both a toilet and a sink. One bathroom included a shower, and guests can request towels and amenities for freshening up—a perfect touch for long-haul travelers.

💺 Which Lounge Is Right for You?

Both lounges offer a relaxing escape from the terminal, but the best one for you depends on your travel style and what kind of experience you’re after:

  • Choose Lufthansa Lounge if:

    • You have a business class ticket with Swiss Air or another Star Alliance partner

    • You want spacious seating, natural light, and complimentary cocktails

    • You prefer a more casual, airy vibe with a view

  • Choose Primeclass Lounge if:

    • You’re a Priority Pass member

    • You’re looking for a more private, upscale environment with showers

    • You don’t mind paying for alcoholic beverages but want higher-end snacks and bathroom privacy

Bonus Tip: Both lounges offer free non-alcoholic beverages—Lufthansa through a soda fountain and Primeclass through bottled and canned drinks.

No matter which one you choose, both lounges elevate the airport experience and make waiting for your flight feel like part of the adventure!
